Pennydale Park in Cheltenham will soon be home to a new modern, inclusive and nature-based space for the local community.
The design has been shaped by community feedback from families and children who helped share their ideas of how we can make the park more fun.
The upgraded playground will feature a wide range of play opportunities, including climbing structures, swings, trampolines and sensory play elements, alongside nature-based features such as logs and rocks. The design caters to people of all ages and abilities, creating a space that is accessible and welcoming for everyone.
The project will also enhance the broader park environment, with new shade sails, a refurbished shelter, BBQ facilities, seating, drinking fountains, improved paths and landscaping.
We've identified seven trees (one is assessed as deceased) that require removal to ensure safety around the playground area. The Arboricultural Report indicates nearby trees, including established gums, provide adequate habitat for Tawny Frogmouths in the area. As part of the landscaping plan, we're planting 16 new trees.
The upgrade has received a $250,000 funding boost through the Victorian Government's Pick My Park program.
Construction is expected to begin in early August 2026 and be completed by the end of the year.
