The new resurfaced synthetic bowling green at the Learmonth Bowling Club is now ready for its first bowl.
This project was identified in the City of Ballarat's Lawn Bowls Facilities Framework and was fully funded through the Recreation Capital Program.
The City of Ballarat has worked closely with the Learmonth Bowling Club to ensure the success of the project.
The $160,000 upgrade included removal of the unplayable bowling surface and installation of synthetic greens, which requires less maintenance and are playable majority of the year.
The City of Ballarat also replaced an irrigation system surrounding the green, and general make good of the surrounding landscaping.
The new bowling green is a Pro-Master Ultra Cool Plus and was installed by Berry Bowling Systems and the surrounding synthetic grass is Fresh Cut.
The new surface was completed on time and ready for the league's mid-week pennant opening round, which commenced straight after the official opening.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said it is great to be able to provide a surface that allows the Learmonth community and broader bowls community to play all year round.
"Replacing an unplayable surface for the community of Learmonth is a wonderful outcome of this project," he said.
"I would urge anyone to come on over and see the new surface for themselves, watch a bowls match or enjoy the Learmonth Bowling Club facilities."
