From Ground Up - Landfall Angus

National Australia Bank

The Archer family have been raising and selling cattle just out of Launceston Tasmania since 1948 and have watched the landscape of farming and business at Landfall Angus change over the years.

Now expertly guided by the fifth generation of Archers, NAB customer Landfall Angus is one of the largest and most sought-after herds in Australia for Angus beef genetics, with bulls delivered across all states – a true testament to the family's hard work and adaptive spirit.

"Our business has grown five-fold over the last ten years – the demand for our genetics has been fantastic - and that has been through hard work, as well as some luck on our side. It's in our blood for sure."

Local community as a backbone

Growing up in Launceston, the Archers are a household name and are heavily invested in the local community, and in particular its people, who are helping the business to thrive.

"We've been fortunate to have a lot of great people around us, and we've engaged a lot of people in different fields and that has helped us immensely. Our future is looking good if we keep heading in the way we are."

Leaders in their field

Renowned around the world for having a premium product, the Archers understand that they need to be leaders not only in the quality of their product, but in the way that their business is responsibly and sustainably operated.

"There have been a lot of advances in the way that we measure the performance of cattle genetics, which in turn, makes their production more efficient and has a positive effect on the environment.

"There are plenty of minds here at Landfall to put ideas together to make sure we're doing it sensibly."

Watch NAB's Executive for Business and Private Banking, Andrew Irvine chat with Ed Archer to hear about their family's business journey so far and the future of sustainable farming.

This conversation is part of NAB's business series – From the Ground Up – where we chat with Australia's entrepreneurs, hearing about the trials and tribulations of their journey and their secrets for success.
