Funding available for collaborative German-Australian renewable hydrogen projects

Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has opened the first funding round of the German-Australian Hydrogen Innovation and Technology Incubator (HyGATE).

HyGATE will fund innovative real-world pilot, trial and demonstration projects. Successful projects may support renewable hydrogen technology development through:

  • technology innovation
  • cost reduction
  • Australian-German supply chain development
  • cross country collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • price transparency.

HyGATE funding will favour projects that encourage collaboration between Australian and German industry and research partners.

HyGATE is a jointly funded initiative to help bring down the cost of hydrogen technologies. Australia and Germany are contributing $50 million and €50 million respectively. It is one of 3 initiatives under the Australia-Germany Hydrogen Accord.
