Funding Secured for Upgraded Wandong and Wallan Facilities

Minster for Community Sport Ros Spence was in Mitchell Shire on Thursday 1 June to announce funding towards upgraded facilities at LB Davern Reserve in Wandong and for the Greenhill Sports and Recreation Precinct in Wallan.

Minister Spence announced $195,000 for an upgrade of the LB Davern Reserve oval that will see the installation of sub-surface drainage, a new perimeter collector drain and surface reshaping behind both goal areas.

These works will greatly increase the carrying capacity of the oval and provide a better playing experience for participants.

Minister Spence also announced the delivery of an election commitment of $5 million towards the Greenhill Sports and Recreation Precinct.

Council's vision is to develop a premier sporting, recreational, and environmental precinct that can meet the needs of the existing and future Wallan community and importantly, encourage engagement and connectivity.

This funding brings Council's vision to develop the Greenhill Sports and Recreation Precinct a step closer.

Council will begin a masterplan process for the proposed precinct development later this month, with a first stage of community and stakeholder engagement to occur in late 2023. The masterplan will be completed in 2024.

Once fully funded and built, the multimillion-dollar project is envisaged to bring additional indoor and outdoor sports facilities, aquatic facilities, recreation trails and opportunities for play.
