The Crisafulli Government is delivering more opportunities for multicultural communities to participate socially and economically in Queensland's way of life.

A fresh $15 million funding pool through the Community Action for a Multicultural Society program will support stronger, more inclusive communities, and applications will officially open tomorrow (May 12) to community organisations, service providers and local councils.

The funding must be used to strengthen local initiatives which expand social and economic inclusion for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

A funding pool of $3.1 million per year is available over the next five years, with individual grants valued at up to $172,000 per year.

The Crisafulli Government is committed to creating a more inclusive Queensland where everyone – no matter their cultural background, or where they live across the state - is empowered to fully contribute and succeed.

During Labor's decade of decline, multicultural communities were seen as nothing more than a box-ticking exercise by the former government.

Minister for Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson said the Community Action for a Multicultural Society program would strengthen community capability, build partnerships and improve access to services.

"This is about building a stronger and more connected Queensland," Minister Simpson said.

"We want to empower local organisations to utilise their knowledge around the needs of their community to deliver practical initiatives which strengthen inclusion, build capability, and expand opportunities.

"This program aims to foster partnerships which improve community safety, strengthen social cohesion, as well as broaden awareness of and engagement with available opportunities within culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

"The former Labor government focused on division over delivery and fear over facts during their decade of decline.

"The Crisafulli Government is focused on breaking down barriers and making sure every Queenslander can fully participate in their communities."

Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland chief executive Lisa Ward said the Community Action for a Multicultural Society program would deliver strategic and locally grounded initiatives which break down barriers to economic and social inclusion.

"We strongly encourage eligible organisations to apply and to continue achieving meaningful long-term outcomes for the communities and clients they serve," Ms Ward said.

Applications close on 9 June 2026.
