FUNDING TO ACCELERATE MOTOR SPORT IN CENTRAL QUEENSLAND
The Liberal and Nationals Government is committing $10 million to the Central Queensland Motorsport Club to help create a permanent, regionally significant motorsport precinct to support economic growth and tourism.
The total project cost is $30 million with the Central Queensland Motorsport Club to confirm additional funding from the local and state governments.
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said the CQ Motor Sporting Complex is expected to attract visitors from Central Queensland and beyond, to view and participate in motorsports events.
"This development will boost the local economy as well as make Rockhampton an even better place to live and visit," Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said.
"The complex is expected to create 65 jobs during construction, 22 ongoing jobs, and contribute $2.6 million to Rockhampton's GRP once operational, having a positive economic impact on the region."
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry said the $10 million investment to construct a motorsports precinct builds off the Coalition Government's commitment to regional areas and their local economies.
"This investment into Central Queensland Motorsports Club's motorsports precinct from the Coalition Government will be a game-changer for the Central Queensland region where the rubber meets the road," Ms Landry said.
"The precinct will aim to bring a significant economic boost to Central Queensland with accommodation, hospitality services, retail and arts and recreation services in the hot seat to benefit from the precinct.
"In Palmyra, I have delivered $300,000 in federal funding to upgrade the Palmyra Dragway and I understand what facilities like the Central Queensland Motorsports Club's motorsports precinct bring to clubs and motoring enthusiasts," Ms Landry said.
Senator Matt Canavan said this $10 million investment will give life to a new Central Queensland Motor Sports Precinct that will benefit the entirety of Central Queensland.
"This will give opportunities for BMX, Go Karts, Motor X, Speedway, Drag Strips, and V8 Supercar events to be held at one dedicated facility right here in Central Queensland," Senator Canavan said.
"This Motor Sports precinct will not only enable another level of Motor Sports but the opportunity for driver education courses in a controlled environment.
"This will be yet another reason for people to come visit our region, and will see huge growth potential for the CQ Motor Sporting Club."
Liberal National Party candidate for Flynn, Colin Boyce said the CQ Motor Sporting Complex will open up huge sporting tourism opportunities for Central Queensland.
"Tens of thousands of Australians are involved with motor sporting events every year – and we want a piece of that action right here in Central Queensland," said Mr Boyce.
"This new complex will really diversify the region's sporting, tourism and entertainment offering, which is great news for associated hospitality and tourism businesses and the jobs they support and create.
"The LNP is continuing to deliver for Central Queensland by making sure that we have the opportunity to host more and more large scale events."
