A further three young men have been arrested by Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives as they continue to make progress into an alleged affray that occurred in Broadmeadows on Wednesday.
It is alleged two groups, believed to be known to each other, had an altercation at the Broadmeadows Railway Station just after 3pm.
Multiple calls were made to Triple Zero (000) and police immediately responded.
On arrival, police established two 17-year-old boys sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds. They were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of those boys remained in hospital and underwent surgery last Thursday.
Enquiries took police to the Glenroy Railway Station were a 19-year-old man and 17-year-old boy were arrested about 3.25pm.
Detectives interviewed both males.
The 17-year-old boy, from the Banyule area, was charged with affray, intentionally cause injury and recklessly cause injury. He was bailed by police to appear at a children's court at a later date.
The 19-year-old from Heidelberg West was released without charge pending further investigations.
Detectives seized a screwdriver while processing the crime scene and will allege it was used as a weapon to assault one of the victims.
Witnesses described seeing other weapons, including a machete, however none were located during their search of the scene.
The updated arrests relate to a 16-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys from the Hume area.
The 16-year-old was arrested on Thursday and charged with intentionally and recklessly cause injury. He was bailed by police to appear at a children's court at a later date.
Two search warrants were also executed at residential addresses in the Hume area on that day.
The two 17-year-old boys were arrested on Friday.
One of them was charged with affray and unlawful assault. He was remanded overnight before bail was granted by a magistrate on Saturday. The other was charged with affray and unlawful assault and bailed by police to a children's court at a later day.
The total number of arrets is now five and more are expected.
In response to this incident additional police have been deployed to Broadmeadows Railway Station.
Detective Sergeant Raynor Gunton from Transit Crime Investigation Unit said arresting alleged offenders has been a priority.
"This is sadly another example where young men have attended a public place in broad daylight armed with knives looking to cause trouble."
