Further charges following Werribee sexual assault

Investigators from the Westgate Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCAIT) arrested a man in Werribee South yesterday in relation to an ongoing investigation, Victoria Police say.

The 29-year-old man from Lakemba, New south Wales was charged with sexual penetration of a person under 16, which is alleged to have been committed against a young girl in December 2018.

He has been remanded to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The charges follow the arrest of two men in January as part of the same investigation.

A 23-year-old man from Werribee was arrested on 8 January and charged with sexual assault of a child under 16, sexual penetration of a child under 12 and sexual penetration of a child under 16.

He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 6 May.

A 21-year-old man from Noble Park was also arrested on 12 January and charged with sexual assault of a child under 16, sexual penetration of a child under 16 and sexual penetration of a child under 12.

He was remanded and is expected to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Investigators are no longer looking for anyone in relation to the investigation.
