Further charges laid after protest - South Coast

Charges have been laid against a 28-year-old man, following an unauthorised protest on the state's South Coast today.

About 8.30am yesterday (Tuesday 8 June 2021), police were called to Carp Street, Bega, following reports of protest activity at an office building.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and located two men and a woman on roof of the building.

About 1.20pm, two men – aged 21 and 28 – were removed from the roof; arrested and taken to Bega Police Station.

The older man has since been charged with use intimidation/violence to unlawfully influence a person, enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, refuse/fail to comply with direction, risk safety of another by climbing onto a building/structure, and wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear in Bega Local Court on Tuesday 29 June 2021.

Three men – 21, 60 and 63 – as well as a 53-year-old woman remain before the courts.
