Property Crime Charges, Wide Bay

Police have charged a man with 15 offences, with more charges expected, following a series of property offences across the Wide Bay area.

It will be alleged police were searching for a 35-year-old Burrum Heads man in relation to a number of break and enters and vehicle thefts committed in the Wide Bay area in April and May.

Between midnight and 5am on Friday, 22 May, the offender allegedly broke into a commercial property on Bruce Highway, Maryborough West and stole a white Toyota Hilux utility, driving it to Howard where he broke into a council property on Steley Street and allegedly stole a white Ford Ranger utility.

He allegedly drove the Ranger north from Howard and at 1.20pm, it collided with a police vehicle on Palomino Drive, Branyan on the outskirts of Bundaberg.

The officers were not injured and the police vehicle sustained minor damage.

The Ranger returned southbound on the Bruce Highway and at 3pm, police were able to successfully deploy a tyre deflation device at Aldershot.

The man fled the vehicle before allegedly gaining entry to a locked yard of a business on Industrial Avenue, Maryborough West and stealing a white Fuso light truck.

The truck was driven through Maryborough before being tracked by POLAIR to a private property on Flindersia Road, Saint Marys where it collided with a tree.

The man ran from the vehicle and was apprehended by police.

The man was arrested and charged with 10 counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company and one count each of stealing of a vehicle, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and obstruct police.

The man has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Maryborough Magistrates Court on 26 May.

Investigations are ongoing and the man is likely to be charged with further offences.
