Through joint funding, Council and Alexandra Secondary College (ASC) have commenced early concept planning for potential upgrades to the Alexandra Community Leisure Centre (the Centre). This planning process is an important first step in shaping a community-driven vision to guide future redevelopment.
The project will support Council advocacy for State and Commonwealth investment by identifying community needs. It will explore options to modernise the facility so it remains a safe, inclusive and accessible place where people of all ages and abilities can stay active, healthy and connected.
Specialist consultants from Otium Planning have been engaged to support the project, drawing on their expertise in recreation planning and community infrastructure design. They have begun a detailed site assessment to inform the development of future design options.
The concept plan will explore upgrades that:
- address ageing infrastructure and improve safety
- meet current standards for access, parking and environmentally sustainable design
- provide inclusive spaces such as gender-neutral change rooms
- respond to community demand for contemporary sport, fitness and recreation facilities
- support the Centre's ability to operate as an Emergency Relief Centre
- investigate operational models that increase public access beyond school use.
