Bali, 6 July 2022 –
Bali will host the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting (FMM) on 7-8 July 2022. Under the theme "Building a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous world together," this meeting will act as a strategic forum to discuss global recovery efforts.
The G20 FMM will consist of two sessions. The first session on strengthening multilateralism will explore joint actions to strengthen global collaboration and foster mutual trust among countries, creating an enabling environment that will support world stability, peace, and development.
Two guest speakers-UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University- will present during this session. They will share their views on bolstering multilateral principles and forums in the current geopolitical situation.
The second session on the Food and Energy crisis will discuss strategic actions to combat food insecurity, fertilizer shortage, and rising global commodity prices.
Rising commodity prices and disruption of global supply chains have impacted enormously developing countries. For this reason, the G20, an economic forum representing various regions of the world, has the power to comprehensively discuss this issue in order to come up with sustainable socio-economic solutions.
In this session, Indonesia invited three guest speakers: David Beasley (Executive Director of WFP), Damilola Ogunbiyi (Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All and Co-Chair of UN-Energy), and Mari Pangestu (Managing Director of the World Bank). They will shed insight on how conflict affects global development and the economy.
The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from both G20 member countries and other invited countries on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
The G20 is a strategic multilateral platform that links the world's 20 largest economies. The G20 has a critical role to play in ensuring future global economic growth and prosperity. Indonesia holds the G20 2022 Presidency and prioritizes cooperation in the fields of strengthening the global health architecture, digital transformation, and energy transition. Concerns about food security will also be heavily highlighted at various G20 meetings in light of the recent developments in Ukraine. Beginning on 1 December 2021, a series of G20 meetings will be held under the Indonesian Presidency, leading up to the Bali Summit on 15-16 November 2022.
