G20 MCWE, Gender Equality Provides Benefits to National Economy

The government has issued various policies and programs to support and strengthen women empowerment in various sectors, and even to to the village level. In doing so, the Government joins hands with the private sector to support Indonesian women and girls to be more independent, including reaching financial independent.

"Collaborative efforts and synergy are the strengths of the Indonesian government to achieve the target that Indonesian women must be empowered and independent. Active joint work is carried out by the government with parties outside the government such as the private sector. Several private companies have succeeded in developing policies to ensure women's participation and decision making," said Acting Deputy Minister for Community Participation at the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (MoWECP) Indra Gunawan at a sharing session of Indonesia's best practices, at the G20 Ministerial Conference on Women's Empowerment (MCWE) Bali.

President Director & CEO, PT. Xl Axiata Dian Siswarini stated that gender equality has a big impact on economy and open opportunities for women to develop themselves.

"We are trying to create more female leaders in XL Axiata who are engaged in Information and Communications Technology. Not only building leadership with a gender perspective, we are also trying to make women's participation in company management sustainable. We continue to strive for this as various research results have found that 50 percent of women are not interested in entering the STEM and think that this area is more suitable for men. For that we have the Sisternet program which aims to narrow the digital gender gap," said Dian.

In the same spirit, Grab Indonesia Country Managing Director Neneng Goenadi stated that women's empowerment is a fundamental thing that country has been striving for.

"In our company, 50 per cent of women have occupied senior managerial positions and this is a basic thing that we continue to maintain because we believe that women's participation will provide more benefits for the company. Not only that, our retail business partners in the application, more than 61 per cent are women, small, micro and medium enterprises. We have the motto #PercayaPerempuan (Believe in Women) as women are resilient in any condition. Empowered women will contribute a positive effect on the family and society.

Meanwhile, PT Blue Bird President Commissioner Noni Purnomo explained the Kartini Blue Bird program which has several programs to increase the income of women's groups. "In 2015 we started the Kartini BlueBird program which has several training programs to encourage women to businesses from their own homes. During the pandemic, we actively provide various trainings such as training in catering businesses, pastry bread, bag and fashion projects, online shops and also digital education.
