The Allan Labor Government is delivering more accessible, family friendly parklands in the outer west with the opening of a magnificent new garden at Serendip Sanctuary.
Member for Lara Ella George representing Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos has officially opened the new all abilities Sensory Garden, the centerpiece of the Serendip Sanctuary revitalisation project.
Designed in partnership with community and accessibility groups, the Sensory Garden gives more Victorians the opportunity to experience the outdoors using the senses to see, smell, listen, taste and feel nature.
More local schools, all abilities sport and recreation groups can enjoy the garden, with all paths, seating and benches fully accessible.
As part of the works, Serendip's display pond has been repaired and is now home to frogs, birds and turtles.
The garden also features native plants from the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Corporation nursery, and stunning artwork by Wadawurrung artist Jenna Oldaker.
The major upgrade of the Serendip Sanctuary will provide more options for families and friends to get up close with nature.
This upgrade will give better access for school groups, a new all abilities Changing Places facility and upgraded animal and wildlife viewing areas.
The Sensory Garden is part of Labor Government's $11 million investment in the You Yangs Master Plan, with additional sponsorship support from CDC Victoria, CMV Truck & Bus and Volvo Bus Australia.
