Gardiners Creek Regional Collaboration Forums

City of Stonnington, in partnership with Melbourne Water, will be running a series of online forums to discuss the vision and future for Gardiners Creek starting this Wednesday 27 October.

Gardiners Creek (Kooyongkoot) originates near Blackburn and flows through Burwood and Malvern East before following the Monash Freeway to the Yarra River (Birrarung). The highly valued open space network surrounding the creek covers the cities of Boroondara, Monash, Stonnington and Whitehorse.

Beginning with the 2018 Healthy Waterways Strategy (Port Philip and Westernport) and Stonnington Gardiners Creek Masterplan, it was identified that ongoing regional collaboration was essential to achieve water, biodiversity, open space, and active/passive recreational goals as well as stronger cultural connection and beneficial outcomes for the creek as a whole.

These online forums will provide a springboard for discussion, bringing all relevant stakeholders to the table. Stakeholders include water, road and transport authorities, Traditional Owners, other State government representatives, and community groups – in addition to the Councils within the Gardiners Creek area.

The first forum on Wednesday 27 October will focus on developing a shared vision for the Gardiners Creek corridor/catchment.

The second forum in November will explore the possibility of an ongoing regional collaboration.
