Gavel Falls On Gunnedah Regional Saleyards Redevelopment

Gunnedah Shire Council

Gunnedah has opened the gate to a new era of livestock sales, with Minister for Agriculture and Regional NSW Tara Moriarty opening the $27.4 million upgrade of one of the state's top cattle selling centres.

The Gunnedah Regional Saleyards redevelopment received $23,708,927 from the NSW Government with Gunnedah Shire Council contributing $3,750,833.

The saleyard generates more than $120 million in value annually from about 100,000 head of cattle sold.

The upgrades have focused on improving operational efficiency, animal welfare, biosecurity and environmental sustainability.

Among the major works are a new multi-use administration and buyers' facility, additional selling and holding pens, and improvements to internal roads, lighting and site access.

The holding pens, central draft area and scales are now roofed, enhancing safety and improving animal welfare, while the upgraded truck-wash facilities and new perimeter fencing provide 24-hour secure access while supporting stronger biosecurity.

Environmental upgrades have also been a key feature of the project, with the installation of solar power, a new water capture and reuse system, and improved dust suppression measures.
