Within the framework of the Improved Mapping and Monitoring of Solar Energy Access for Enhanced Climate Action and Socio-Economic Resilience project, ESCWA organized two virtual capacity-building workshops for government officials from Yemen and Djibouti on developing and applying geospatial digital tools to map, monitor, and analyse access to solar energy.
The workshops aimed to strengthen participants' capacities to use AI-enabled Geographic Information System (GIS) models to detect installed solar energy systems, thereby supporting evidence-based policymaking and climate action. They also introduced key concepts in artificial intelligence and deep learning, with a focus on their practical applications in the energy sector.
The two events are part of a broader series of workshops that will be implemented in collaboration with the National Council for Scientific Research - Lebanon (CNRS-L), for government officials from Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.
