German Foreign Minister Visits Australia

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I will welcome Germany's Foreign Minister, Dr Johann Wadephul, to Canberra.

Australia and Germany are close friends with a shared interest in stability, cooperation and responsible global engagement.

The security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region and Europe are deeply linked.

Our bilateral relationship is underpinned by our Enhanced Strategic Partnership. We are likeminded partners on economic, energy and supply chain security.

Our support for Ukraine remains steadfast, with Germany, the largest European contributor, and Australia, the largest non-NATO contributor, of military assistance.

We are committed to strengthening our cooperation, bilaterally and with partners across our regions to build our respective and collective resilience to global challenges.

Australia and Germany have long been close partners, with a relationship grounded in common values. I look forward to our continued engagement with Germany as the world's third largest economy and a key global partner.
