Get Involved In Reef Community Projects

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

A range of community-led initiatives are supporting a resilient Great Barrier Reef.

The Reef Trust is Australia's investment program for the Reef. The Reef Trust funds programs that empower communities to take action.

This includes programs to:

  • restore habitats
  • collect citizen science data
  • remove marine debris.

These programs provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved and help protect the Great Barrier Reef.

The ReefClean Program is run by Tangaroa Blue. Through the program, community can get involved in beach-clean up events and collect valuable marine debris data.

The program helps to reduce the impact of marine debris on the Reef.

The Great Barrier Reef Citizen Science Program enables community to help collect data to monitor the Reef, marine life and habitats.

The program is funding four initiatives. This includes the Great Reef Census and the Reconnecting with the birthplace of reef stewardship projects.

The program aims to support collection of valuable data to better manage threats for the Reef.

The Community Stewardship Program is funding projects to restore habitats and ecosystems. This includes oyster, seagrass and mangrove habitats.

Community can get involved to support restoration efforts and help protect these key habitats.
