The Government of Canada awards over $600,000 in funding to support this export promotion organization

May 24, 2019 – Chandler, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

With the help of Government of Canada funding, GÎMXPORT-a key export promotion player in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region, and one of the regional export promotion organizations also known as ORPEXes-will be able to continue assisting businesses in their operations. The services provided by this organization are specifically directed toward SMEs that want to develop or diversify their operations and export markets.

To support its operations over the next three years, the organization will receive a $612,000 non-repayable contribution from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. The announcement was made by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Member of Parliament for Gaspésie‒Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue.

ORPEXes help businesses

  • obtain basic exporting information;

  • organize their activities for penetrating foreign markets;

  • receive a diagnosis regarding their export capacity;

  • find out about funding opportunities for their export projects;

  • get specialized training; and

  • develop an international business plan.

The funding will allow GÎMXPORT to consolidate and increase the scope of its business and foreign market development activities, thus contributing to the growth and visibility of the businesses that benefit from its services.

“ORPEXes are an essential resource for businesses that export and those with the potential to export. Their achievements contribute directly to the Government of Canada’s broad international trade priorities. I would particularly like to congratulate GÎMXPORT for the tremendous work it is doing to help Gaspésie‒Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine region businesses enhance their market development capacity. Over time, this organization’s integral and invaluable role has become an important lever for economic and social development.”

The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, MP for Gaspésie‒Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue

“CED is proud to have been involved in the funding of ORPEXes since their creation in 1990. Unique to Quebec, these organizations contribute, not only to the achievement of CED’s targets for the global commercialization and positioning of businesses, but also to the ambitious goal set by the Government of Canada of a 30% increase in Canadian exports by 2025. By focusing on the importance of innovation, this renewed funding will equip Quebec businesses with tools that will allow them to favourably position themselves in a highly competitive global ecosystem.”

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED

“We are extremely pleased with this financial support, and with the confidence that CED has placed in us. This new funding agreement will allow our organization to continue helping businesses diversify their opportunities and capture new markets, as it has been doing for over 25 years now. We want to be at the forefront of initiatives aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and visibility of Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine businesses outside the region.”
