Gippsland Ag Chat sessions start up for 2021

The practicalities and advantages of early weaning cattle and the associated animal health issues will be the focus of the first Gippsland Ag Chat session for the year on Thursday 28 January at 8.30pm.

Agriculture Victoria Livestock Extension Officer Fiona Baker said the session will look at the preparations required for a successful early weaning program.

'A successful early weaning program involves planning for yard weaning, ensuring there is adequate water available, and selecting the right feed for young stock during the yard weaning phase as well as in the paddock.

'In addition, it's important to spend time with the stock, training them to use the yards so they are easier to handle in the future.

'There are a range of animal health issues including pinkeye that farmers also need to look out for,' Ms Baker said.
