Designed to broaden career horizons and challenge industry stereotypes, Girls in Property introduces Year 9 and 10 students to the diverse and dynamic world of property – incorporating design, sustainability, technology, business, construction, and community development, showcasing the breadth of roles available within the industry.
The day includes keynote presentations from Cotton On Project Manager, Alyce Delaney and Deakin Urban Planning expert, Jackie Svedas; a panel of industry experts across property and retail; a speed networking event; site tours of Cotton On and visual merchandising activities.
1.4 million Australians are employed in the property sector, with women making up around 25 per cent of that workforce, highlighting the importance of initiatives like Girls in Property that introduce more young women to the diverse career opportunities the sector has to offer.
Property Council Victorian Executive Director Cath Evans said the program shows young women that the property industry offers far more than they might expect.
"Property is about so much more than bricks and mortar. It's an industry that brings together creativity, innovation, sustainability, technology, design, engineering, finance and leadership to shape the places where people live, work and connect," Ms Evans said.
"We want every young woman to leave today knowing there is a place for her in this industry, whatever her interests or strengths may be. Whether you aspire to be an architect, planner, engineer, project manager, sustainability expert or CEO, the opportunities are incredibly diverse."
