City of Gold Coast is encouraging residents, schools and businesses to give back to the place we call home this Clean Up Australia Day.
"We are calling on Gold Coasters to take part in Clean Up Australia Day this weekend and show your pride in our wonderful city," Acting Mayor Mark Hammel said.
"Choose from one of many sites already registered for Clean Up Australia Day or register your own site which others can join.
"Managing waste in a growing city isn't cheap. It costs Gold Coast ratepayers more than $8 million dollars each year to clean up litter and illegal dumping.
"Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect opportunity for Gold Coasters to volunteer, be active and help remove litter and other waste materials from our natural environment."
There are separate events held for Clean Up Australia Day on the Gold Coast.
2026 Clean Up Australia Day dates:
School Clean Up Australia Day – Friday 27 February
Clean Up Australia Day – Sunday 1 March
The Gold Coast has supported Clean Up Australia Day for over 30 years with financial and in-kind support, including staff and trucks to collect the litter for safe disposal at landfill or for recycling.
Last year, there were hundreds of volunteers who cleaned up more than 160 sites across the Gold Coast including parks, beachside areas, roadside, car parks and waterways removing hundreds of kilograms of litter.
The most common litter items collected on the Gold Coast include cigarette butts, plastic bottles and cans, food wrappers, soft plastics and polystyrene fragments.
The City is partnering with Gecko Environment Council to coordinate Clean Up Australia Day.
