Gunnedah Shire families in need are the focus of the Gunnedah Community Christmas Tree Toy Appeal launching today.
Gunnedah Shire Council is partnering with the Gunnedah Salvation Army for the annual initiative, which calls on community members to donate gifts to those in need over Christmas.
Gunnedah Shire Mayor Colleen Fuller said with living expenses still on the rise, it was becoming more and more difficult for families to celebrate Christmas in a cost-effective way.
"When we think about Christmas, we think about giving, and that's exactly what we are asking our community to do - to give to those who need it most," she said.
"This is the twelfth year Council has partnered with the Salvation Army, and over that time, hundreds of families have been blessed by the generosity of our residents. This is one way of connecting our community through compassion.
"I encourage locals to add a gift or two, or even three, under the Christmas tree this year and help spread joy throughout our Shire."
New and unwrapped gifts can be placed under the Christmas tree located at Gunnedah Shire Council's Administration Building (63 Elgin Street, Gunnedah) and at the Gunnedah Shire Library (291 Conadilly St, Gunnedah).
Gift ideas include toys, clothing and accessories, books, sporting goods, games, beauty products and gift vouchers. Locals are also encouraged to consider selecting gifts appropriate for older children.
For health and hygiene reasons, food items and pre-loved toys are unable to be donated.
Donations must be received before 5pm on Friday, 5 December 2025 and will be distributed to local families in the lead-up to Christmas.
