Giving More Kids Sporting Chance In 2026

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is making it cheaper and easier to get kids into the sports they love.

Minister Spence and Minister Shing today visited the brand new Bundha Sports Centre in Fitzroy to announce applications for Round 10 of Get Active Kids Vouchers are now open, with more than 40,000 vouchers up for grabs.

Eligible families can apply for up to $200 per child to help with memberships, registration fees, uniforms and equipment.

Labor is investing $23 million in the popular program - and it's working with almost 20 per cent of children who received a voucher joining a local sporting club for the first time.

Since launching in 2020, more than 225,000 vouchers have been snapped up.

The Labor Government also officially opened Bundha Sports Centre today - giving families in Melbourne's inner-north access to world-class facilities at Australia's first publicly accessible vertical sports centre.

The centre has four competition-level courts for netball, basketball and volleyball, as well as a futsal court, gymnasium, cafe and flexible community spaces - backed by a $49.5 million Labor Government investment and $5 million contribution from Yarra City Council.

Get Active Kids is open to kids aged 18 and under named on a Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and named on a Medicare Card. A special consideration stream is also available to support children in care, temporary or provisional visa holders, migrants and international students.

Vouchers can only be redeemed at a registered Get Active Kids Voucher Program activity provider.

As stated by Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence

"We're providing real support for families to make sure kids aren't sitting on the sidelines because of cost."

"This program makes it easier for kids to get off their screens and onto a sports field, a court or a dance floor - keeping them healthy and connected."

As stated by Minister for Development Victoria Harriet Shing

"Bundha Sports Centre is giving kids of all ages and abilities from across Melbourne's inner north a world-class facility to enjoy."

"Unlike the Liberals' preferential treatment of their leafy inner suburbs, we'll continue to support every Victorian family, suburb, and community."
