Hundreds arrived at the Glitz and Glamour Ball for an evening of fun and dance to celebrate the International Day of People with Disability.

Kempsey Shire Council worked closely with the Macleay Disability Inclusion Group to put on the Glitz and Glamour Ball at the Slim Dusty Centre on Saturday 15 October.

Master of Ceremonies and award-winning country music bush balladeer, Amos Morris, kicked off the evening by welcoming guests to the event that fosters inclusiveness, interaction and social awareness of people with disability.

Guests were then inspired by the Guest of Honour, Sam Bailey, who has achieved tremendous success from a wheelchair, detailing how he fulfilled his life-long dream of being a farmer and ultimately learning to fly an ultralight aircraft.

Aisha Spokes, Community Projects Officer at Kempsey Shire Council and member of the Macleay Disability Inclusion Group said around two hundred guests attended and enjoyed the great evening.

"People danced for hours and it was really beautiful seeing all the smiles from everyone there," said Ms Spokes.

"It truly was an amazing night and we can't wait to do it all again next year."

"We really want to thank local businesses and organisations that have shown their support by sponsoring this year's event. Without them, the night wouldn't have been the success it was."

Organisations who helped put on the night include Principal Sponsor Key Employment, Major Sponsors Coastline Credit Union, Macleay Options and South West Rocks Country Club and Supporting Sponsors Ability Options, Community Housing Ltd and ETC.

A huge thanks also goes to the many businesses who donated raffle prizes, with all proceeds going to future events.

Preparations are well underway for Kempsey's Big Day Out event to celebrate International Day of People with Disability on Friday 2 December at Riverside Park.

The vibe at the Big Day Out will be incredible with a line-up of fun, entertainment and free activities to suit people of all ages and abilities.
