Golf Championships Boost Territory Lifestyle, Economy

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government continues to bring national attention and economic opportunity to the Top End, with two major golf tournaments swinging into action this month.

The Tailor-Made Building Services NT PGA Championship returns to the newly renovated Palmerston Golf & Country Club, drawing talent from across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the USA, and the UK.

Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Marie-Clare Boothby said the tournaments align with the CLP Government's commitment to "Restoring the Territory Lifestyle" and making the Territory lifestyle the envy of the nation.

"These events put the Territory on the national and global stage, while driving visitation and boosting the economy.

"The NT PGA is a fantastic opportunity for locals and visitors to experience world-class golf right here in the Northern Territory," Ms Boothby said.

"These championships support local jobs, fill our hotels and restaurants, and inject millions into the economy. We're delivering real results for the NT and reinforcing our status as a premier sporting destination."

Spectators can watch some of the world's best golfers up close as they compete for $200,000 in prize money as part of the 2025/26 Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, a record-breaking tour offering more than $7 million across 10 events.

In a major first, the final two rounds will be broadcast live around Australia on Foxtel and Kayo Sports and New Zealand on Sky Sports - a milestone delivered by the CLP Government during its year of action, certainty, and security.

Off the course, keen golfers of all ages and skill levels can participate in a packed program of activities, including a Junior Clinic with the pros, Junior and Sponsor Pro-Am events, a Ladies Clinic, and an introduction to golf for Indigenous children.

The Australian Veteran Golfers Association (AVGA) 2025 Golf Championship will also tee off at Darwin and Palmerston Golf Clubs, returning to the NT for the first time since 2015.

The event will welcome around 300 golfers aged 55 and over from across Australia for a range of competition, tourism and social events.

"From developing junior talent to attracting veteran players and visitors, these championships are a win for the whole community," Ms Boothby said.

Palmerston Golf & Country Club General Manager Matt Hewer said hosting the NT PGA Championship is a highlight for the club.

"It's a chance to showcase our stunning course, our fantastic facilities, and the warm hospitality Palmerston Golf & Country Club is known for," said Mr Hewer.

"We can't wait to see the fairways filled with top-tier talent and our community out in force to support them."

The NT PGA will take place from 28-31 August 2025 with free entry for spectators, and the AVGA from the 31 August-5 September 2025.
