Goulburn Mulwaree Council has successfully secured funding through the NSW Government's Permit/Plug/Play Program, an initiative led by Transport for NSW that aims to make it faster, simpler and more affordable to deliver street-based events across NSW.
The funding will support a significant program of work focused on streamlining Council's event approval processes, reducing barriers for event organisers, and investing in infrastructure that enables more frequent and vibrant activations across the city.
Mayor Cr Nina Dillon said the funding represents a major opportunity to strengthen Goulburn's event offering and support local businesses, community groups and event organisers.
"Events play a vital role in bringing people together, supporting local businesses and creating vibrant public spaces. This funding will help Council reduce the complexity and cost of delivering street-based events while improving the experience for event organisers and the community."
As part of the project, Council will undertake a comprehensive review of its internal event approval processes, develop streamlined workflows and introduce practical tools such as
pre-approved traffic management plans. The project will also deliver new place-enabling infrastructure to support activations in key event locations in the CBD.
The project aligns with Council's broader vision of creating a more vibrant, connected and activated city centre while supporting economic development, tourism and community wellbeing.
Business Manager Marketing, Events and Culture Sarah Ruberto said the funding will help remove some of the traditional barriers associated with temporary road closures and street-based events.
"This project is about making it easier for community organisations, businesses and event organisers to bring great ideas to life. By improving our processes and investing in place enabling infrastructure, we can reduce costs, improve efficiency and support more events that activate our streets and public spaces."
This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government. Goulburn Mulwaree Council has been awarded $447,983.00 through the Permit/Plug/Play Program, led by Transport for NSW.
