Central Goldfields Shire Council adopted the revised Governance Rules and Public Transparency Policy at last night's (25/08) Council Meeting.

The Governance Rules and Public Transparency Policy were updated to ensure compliance with the new Local Government Act 2020 and are important policies to ensure good governance principles are followed by the council.

The Governance Rules outline how Council Meetings will be conducted, the availability of meeting records, the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, the appointment of an Acting Mayor and the implementation of the Election Period Policy.

The Public Transparency Policy describes the different ways community members can access Council information and what information is publicly available.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the Governance Rules and Public Transparency Policy are two essential documents for all councils, but are particularly important as Central Goldfields prepares for a newly elected Council.

"The Governance Rules and Public Transparency Policy are important policies required under the new Local Government Act to ensure good governance," he said.
