Government is focused on matters that Tasmanians care about when Parliament returns

Guy Barnett,Liberal Member for Lyons

When parliament returns this week, the Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to focus on matters Tasmanians really care about.

We will particularly focus on keeping Tasmanians safe with the introduction of the Family Violence Reforms Bill.

This Bill continues our Government's clear commitment to implement legislative reform to strengthen legal responses to family and sexual violence.

The Bill delivers on an important election commitment to create a new declaration for repeat family violence offenders, and the commitment to be able to mandate participation in behaviour change programs as part of a Family Violence Order.

Other Bills we will be introducing to the House:

  • Youth Justice Amendment (Searches in Custody) Bill;
  • Family Violence Reforms Bill;
  • Roads and Jetties Amendment Bill; and
  • Electricity Safety Bill.

We will also be debating the Land Tax Amendment Bill as we reaffirm our unprecedented investment in housing and put downward pressure on rent prices.

While we focus on these crucial matters like keeping Tasmanians safe and reducing cost of living pressures, Labor will no doubt continue their fine form of rumourmongering and weaponising sensitive matters in House.

As we prepare for another busy legislative agenda, Ms White has spent another embarrassing week defending her integrity and leadership over the handling of former Labor President and candidate, Ben McGregor.

Ms White has now demonstrated a trend of using idle gossip for political gain and she needs to be held to account.
