Government needs to do more than tell people to get vaccine - it needs to provide access

Tasmanian Labor

The Gutwein Government and Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff need to do far more than instruct Tasmanians to get COVID vaccine booster shots - they need to provide access right across Tasmania.

Shadow Health Minister Anita Dow said Tasmanians in rural and regional areas are now required to travel to larger centres to access a booster in a state-run clinic.

"In fact the only regional community vaccine clinic currently being provided by the government is in Huonville - these clinics should be available in other regional areas" Ms Dow said.

"The Government has always maintained they have employed enough staff to roll out the vaccination program but services have been cancelled and staff transferred between roles to fill the gaps.

"With the current booster rate at just 53 per cent, Mr Rockliff needs to tell Tasmanians: When will the regional and remote clinics be stood up again?

"With the current ATAGI advice in relation to the need to have the third dose to be considered fully vaccinated, it's important there is equity of access to getting a booster.

"The fact is Mr Gutwein is just too distracted dealing with the chaos and disarray in his Cabinet to focus on delivering the important things that matter and make a difference to all Tasmanians."
