His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Her Excellency Mrs Hurley, have visited the City of Swan community to reflect on the recent Wooroloo bushfire, and to thank those involved in recovery efforts on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Their Excellencies met with local residents in the fire-affected area last week and toured the devastated area to better understand the destruction, noting the resilience of the local community in rebuilding and recovering from the disaster.

They also met with volunteers from East and West Gidgegannup Bushfire Brigades, and organisations helping with recovery including the Gidgegannup Country Women’s Association (CWA), Red Cross, BlazeAid, and Disaster Relief Australia.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said it was an honour to host Their Excellencies, who heard stories of heartbreaking loss, as well as countless examples of compassion, kindness, and determination to rebuild and recover.
