General Practices already participating in the AstraZeneca vaccination program will have received an expression of interest (EoI) form to indicate if they want to administer the Pfizer vaccine. Practices selected to participate will have to provide both AstraZeneca and Pfizer.
The AMA has strongly advocated for general practice to have access to the Pfizer vaccine and the EOI confirms that by October all eligible general practices will be able to participate in the Pfizer roll out. The EOI also provided the opportunity for practices to nominate to commence vaccinating with Pfizer from July, particularly those in identified areas of need.
While there is no closing date for the EOI, practices are strongly encouraged to lodge an EOI at the earliest opportunity to assist with planning and logistics and provide early reassurance that the Government can continue to rely on GPs as part of its vaccine roll out planning.
About 900 additional general practices have also joined the rollout. Thanks to continued AMA advocacy, this included non-accredited general practices for the first time.
UPDATED ATAGI ADVICE: The advice is now seven days between an influenza vaccine and a COVID-19 vaccine.
