Plans for a new fenced dog off leash area at Cedric Archer Park are moving ahead after receiving strong community support during Council's recent consultation period.
Construction of the new 2,200m² fenced space will commence in the coming months and be open for public use later in the year.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the positive community response confirmed there was a strong appetite for the new facility.
"The feedback we received showed overwhelming support for a fenced dog off leash area at Cedric Archer Park, and we're excited to see the project soon move into the construction phase," Cr Rutherford said.
"This new area is an exciting addition to Cedric Archer Park, which Council has been progressively developing into a community hub for Gracemere.
"Already home to a wide range of recreation and leisure facilities, the park is continuing to grow as a central meeting place, with the space giving people and their pets even more opportunities to exercise and socialise.
"The 2,200m² area will feature secure fencing with dual-lock gates, seating and a water bubbler, with works also including the installation of the fence, supporting infrastructure and necessary water connection.
"We've designed the facility to complement the existing park while protecting surrounding vegetation and ensuring it integrates well with the wider recreational area."
Divisional Councillor Edward Oram said the project reflected Council's commitment to delivering facilities that responded directly to community feedback.
"The Gracemere community told us they wanted a fenced, purpose‑built dog off leash area at Cedric Archer Park, and we're proud to deliver something that will genuinely improve the way people use the space," Cr Oram said.
"Whether people prefer walking their dogs along the footpaths or letting them run freely in a secure area, this addition will complement the park well and offer more choice for local pet owners.
"I'm looking forward to seeing local families, friends and their four-legged family members making the most of this exciting new addition to Gracemere."
The Cedric Archer Park Dog Off Leash Area will become the latest addition to Council's network of dog off leash area across the Region. View the full list here.
