Grants Boost Social Enterprises in Local Communities

Dept of Social Services

The Albanese Labor Government is investing an additional $2.64 million to help Australian social enterprises grow, create jobs and change lives, with applications for the latest round of the Social Enterprise Development Initiative (SEDI) grants opening today.

Nationwide, around 12,000 social enterprises tackle complex social challenges while creating more than 85,000 jobs for Australians who might otherwise miss out on work, proving that doing good and doing business can go hand in hand.

Many social enterprises are ready to grow and increase their impact but need targeted support to take the next step. Through this round of SEDI grants, successful applicants will be able to access up to $120,000 to strengthen their capability, expand their operations and build sustainable, innovative business models.

So far, 56 grants have been awarded nationally, including support for 20 organisations in remote and regional areas and 19 First Nations social enterprises.

Later this year, the Government will invest a further $2.52 million in a dedicated SEDI funding round for First Nations social enterprises, supporting opportunity, inclusion and innovation in First Nations communities.

This funding is a key component of the Albanese Labor Government's $230 million Targeting Entrenched Disadvantage Package, which is focused on creating real pathways to jobs, dignity and economic participation.

Social enterprises will be able to apply for these capability building grants through the (link is external)SEDI Grants Administrator website from 8 May 2026 and applications will be assessed as they are received until funding is exhausted.
