Grants to support LGBTIQ+ community

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Community Services and Development

All Tasmanians should be treated with dignity and respect – regardless of their relationship status, sexuality, gender identity or intersex characteristics.

Four organisations will receive funding through the Tasmanian Government's 2021 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ+) Grants Program, which helps LGBTIQ+ Tasmanians, their friends and families have equal opportunity to participate in and contribute to Tasmania's social, economic and cultural life.

Total funding being allocated through the 2021 Grants Program is $46,850. The projects to receive funding are:

  • $25,000 for Working It Out Inc;
  • $4,810 for Hockey Tasmania;
  • $8,440 for Bushrangers Sporting; and
  • $8,600 for Clarence City Council.

An inclusive society is one where all Tasmanians have an equal opportunity and responsibility to contribute to Tasmanian life, and next year, these grants will increase to $70,000 per annum for the LGBTIQ+ community, to support community organisations to increase acceptance of diversity, access to services and participation.

The list of this year's successful applicants will be available on the Department of Communities Tasmania's website at www.communities.tas.gov.au.
