Green and Gold Runway to 2032 Olympics and Paralympics

Take your marks and get set for a free day of sport in celebration of the ten-year race down the green and gold runway to the Brisbane 2023 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Gold Coast will open its world-class venues for the community to "come and try" Olympic sports on Saturday 23 July.

Dozens of free lessons and coaching clinics will be held from 7am to 7pm, showcasing some of the sports expected to be hosted on the Gold Coast for the Games in 2032.

"Dress up in your green and gold and come and try out an Olympic sport with the support of Olympians and Paralympians who will be here on the coast to join in the Olympic spirit," said Mayor Tom Tate.

"We are a frontrunner when it comes to Olympic standard facilities, having hosted the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Pan Pacific Masters Games and National Gymnastics Championships. The BMX World Cup is also scheduled for later this year.

"The significant investment into our new and refurbished venues have provided us with a head start in providing the world's best facilities for the 2032 Olympics."

Swimming Australia recently relocated to Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, with the venue hosting over 10 national events and national training camps since 2019.

"From swimming and surfing lessons to wheelchair basketball and BMX demos, there's an Olympic sport for everyone to try this weekend."

Come and try:

  • Swimming at Pimpama Sports Hub
  • Indoor volleyball at Coomera Indoor Stadium
  • Beach volleyball at Kurrawa Beach, Broadbeach
  • Soccer, basketball and wheelchair basketball at Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Carrara
  • Skateboarding and BMX at Pizzey Park, Miami
  • Surfing at Currumbin Alley
  • Athletics in various locations
