Colac is getting a bike park!
After extensive advocacy from the community and Council, Colac Otway has been successful in its bid for $500,000 in funding from the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund for construction of a new bike park.
"Strong collaboration between community and Council has been the driving success behind the bike park project," Mayor Jason Schram said.
"This has been a community-driven project led by strong, longstanding support - particularly from young people and families."
Cr Schram said Council listened and conducted extensive work to develop the project, consulting with local communities on what they'd like to see in a bike park in the future.
"We made this a priority project in our Advocacy Priorities of 2026 and there was a lot of work that might go unseen behind this, and what we now have is funding for a shovel-ready project with designs reflecting what our community asked for. It's a really exciting outcome," Cr Schram said.
Elliminyt Recreation Reserve has been selected as the location for the new bike park.
"It is an ideal location in a high-growth area," Cr Schram said.
"There are great existing facilities at the Reserve and plenty of space to create a safe, accessible bike park for riders of all ages and abilities."
The State Government funding will be supported by contributions of $146,000 from Council and $80,000 from Colac Connected Communities.
