Greens scare-campaign on our Workplace Protection Bill must stop

Guy Barnett,Minister for Resources

It's no surprise that the Greens are attempting to mislead Tasmanians on our Government's Workplace Protection Bill - they're desperate for Labor to support their anti-jobs, anti-Tasmanian scare-campaign.

We are not going to stand by and allow the anti-jobs Greens to rob Tasmanians of their right to work and safely earn a living for their families and that's why we're committed to this Bill.

The Government respects the rights of every Tasmanian to express their views and protest lawfully and we have been very clear that our Workplace Protection Bill is not about stopping Tasmanians from protesting.

The Bill actually recognises every Tasmanian's right to freedom of speech.

The Bill more clearly defines the threshold for disruption, exceptions, and defences on business premises and will clearly outline exemptions including hospitals, schools, and charity organisations.

These changes will not prevent lawful and peaceful Tasmanians from protesting, rather it will protect Tasmanian businesses' right to operate, and worker's right to work.

This Government took our commitment to the election and the Tasmanian people have given us a clear mandate to re-prosecute our Workplace Protection laws and it's time that the Greens accept that.

We will continue fighting to provide the protection Tasmanian workers so desperately need.
