Grenada Joins WMO as 194th Member

WMO welcomes the Caribbean nation of Grenada as its 194th Member.

The WMO Secretariat has received official notification from the Permanent Mission of the United States of America, as host country of the WMO Convention, that Grenada has deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention, with its membership to take effect from 18 October 2026.

This means that WMO now has 194 Members, which include 188 Member States and 6 Member Territories.

Grenada, which consists of several small islands and has a population of about 117,000 people, is vulnerable to impacts of severe weather and the changing climate. Grenada suffered widespread devastation and disruption when it was hit by Hurricane Beryl on 1 July 2024, at strong category 4 strength on the Saffir Simpson scale.

As a Member, Grenada will be integrated into WMO's Regional Association for North America, Central America and the Caribbean (RAIV) and the RAIV Hurricane Committee. It will have access to WMO's full range of services to improve forecasts and early warnings, strengthen its observing network and develop institutional and technical capacity.
