Greyhounds gather for off-leash event in Salisbury

The saying goes that, "every dog has its day." And that's come true for greyhounds, who will be treated to an exclusive off-leash event at one of our dog parks.

State laws normally restrict the breed from being off-leash in public areas, including dog parks.

In a one-off event, an Off-leash Greyhound Day will be held on Saturday 6 November 2021 at Jenkins Reserve Small Dog Park, Saints Road, Salisbury Park.

Five 45-minute sessions will be held at 9am, 10am, 11am and 12pm, and only 12 eligible greyhounds are permitted per session.

To be eligible to enter the event, a greyhound must be GAP SA approved - the official rehoming program for the breed - and must have a Greyhound Muzzle Exemption, as entry will not be permitted without this being sighted.

GAP SA approved greyhounds include retired and adopted greyhounds that have a muzzle exemption from GAP SA, however racing greyhounds, foster greyhounds, mix breeds and greyhounds without a muzzle exemption are not permitted.

Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM said the event was a fun way to celebrate the majestic looking breed.

This is such a lovely, light-hearted event and it will be great to see greyhounds enjoy our dog park facilities and not miss out on all the fun completely.

Registrations for each session can be made through Eventbrite, available here.

Please register all greyhounds separately and each greyhound must be accompanied by only one responsible person aged 16 years and over that can exercise effective control at all times.
