Greyhounds meet their ‘forever families’ at adoption day

Kellyville Pets has partnered with Greyhounds as Petsand are holding a Greyhound Adoption Day at their Kellyville store on Saturday 29 May 2021 from 9am until 2pm.

Greyhound lovers will get the chance to meet, cuddle and interact with a variety of greyhounds while learning more about the adoption journey and finding their Greyhound Paw-fect match.

Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) have been working with Kellyville Pets for over five years and according to Dr Alicia Fuller, General Manager of Greyhound as Pets, they work well together as both have aligning values.

“We’ve had a successful partnership with Kellyville Pets for many years now. We are both strong advocates of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership and these adoption days are about finding Greyhounds their forever homes, and families their forever pet.”

“A greyhound will make a fantastic addition to any family. This breed is well behaved and brings nothing but love. Our adoption days give the public the chance to see for themselves the placid nature of the dogs, and of course to have a pat and a snuggle.”

“We rehome our Greyhounds via a 6-step program that matches pet owners with a greyhound suitable to their lifestyle and personality so everyone gets a perfect match.” Continues Dr Fuller.

John Grima, Owner and Managing Director of Kellyville Pets says their GAP adoption days normally attract a large crowd.

“People come from all over Sydney to attend these adoption days. It’s not surprising though as Greyhounds really are great pets because of their calm temperament, and they don't require a lot of space to live. Like all dogs they just love a daily walk.”  Explains Mr Grima.

“We really enjoy working with GAP helping rehome greyhounds.  We believe no animalsshould be left in shelters and we are committed to finding the most suitable home for all animals, both young and old.”  Explains Mr Grima.

There will be two types of Greyhounds available at the adoption day, "blue" dogs who would suit full time workers or need to be single dogs and "red" dogs who are ideal for people who are home more often or already have a pet dog.

Dogs accepted into Greyhounds as Pets are first checked by a veterinarian and behaviourally assessed for suitability as a pet. They are then settled into pet life through a six-week foster care program, where they learn house manners including toilet training. Greyhounds are then ready to be placed into loving homes.
