Griffith City Council has welcomed the NSW Government's expansion of The Welcome Experience program, a move set to strengthen the attraction and retention of essential workers across the region.
From June 2026, the program will expand from 55 to 88 Local Government Areas (LGA), building on its success in helping more than 3,000 essential workers and their families relocate to regional NSW.
Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the program is already delivering benefits for Griffith.
"Attracting and retaining essential workers is critical for our community," Mayor Curran said.
"Programs like The Welcome Experience make a genuine difference by supporting families from the moment they consider moving here through to settling into our community."
Delivered locally by Regional Development Australia Riverina, the program provides tailored, on-the-ground support to workers relocating to the region, including assistance with housing, schools, childcare and community connections.
Since the program began, 44 individuals and their families, working in health, education, police and fire and rescue, have already made the move to Griffith.
Mayor Curran said the expansion would build on this momentum.
"Every new worker strengthens our services, supports local businesses and adds to our community," he said.
"This is about making sure Griffith remains a great place to live, work and raise a family."
To further support newcomers, Griffith Connections is inviting new residents to "Taste Griffith", a guided stroll through the city centre that showcases the region's renowned food culture and helps build meaningful community connections.
