The Murray Darling Association (MDA) will hold its 81st annual National Conference from 29th September – 2nd October in Griffith, NSW.
MDA Chief Executive, Mark Lamb, said that "the national conference was a real opportunity to further Basin advocacy, to ensure a healthy Murray-Darling Basin that supports thriving communities economic development, and a sustainable future."
Focusing on collaboration in our Basin, our communities, and our environment, the conference will be delving into pressing issue that have been identified by communities across the Murray-Darling Basin as key points of concern with a risk of impacting Basin communities and industries in the years ahead.
The MDA's National Conference has been held in different parts of the Basin annually as a way of bringing together diverse perspectives and experiences, to find common ground for the future of our Basin, and to showcase regional work and initiatives to Government and Basin communities.
We need to inform ourselves. We need to ensure our views are being heard" - Cr Shari Blumer, Chair Region 9, MDA National President
REAL BASIN ISSUES. REAL BASIN DISCUSSIONS.
With the Murray-Darling Basin Plan set to be reviewed, representation of Communities and Community Groups, Councils, as well as Businesses and Industries is vital in ensuring the socio, economic, and environmental balance in the Murray-Darling Basin.
Speaking to ABC Radio Riverina, Cr Shari Blumer noted that "[while] LGAs in Queensland may be different from LGAs in New South Wales, we have the same issues."
Cr Blumer indicated that "…by having a consolidated, principles-based approach, [Basin communities] can speak to Government."
This is the most pivotal time for the Basin. We need to ensure that our voices are heard now… to influence the new Basin Plan.
- Mr Mark Lamb,
MDA Chief Executive Officer
