A Well-Deserved Honour for a Quiet Achiever: Gwen Pope Recognised

The Bland Shire Seniors Week Recognition Award celebrates the valuable contributions individuals make to the lives of older people across the Shire, recognising those who create lasting impact through connection, care and community spirit.

Bland Shire Council is proud to congratulate Gwen Pope, who has been named the 2026 Seniors Week Recognition Award recipient.

Announced at the recent Bland Shire Council Seniors Week Lunch, the award acknowledges Gwen's longstanding dedication to supporting others, particularly in the Weethalle community. While it is difficult to capture the full extent of her contribution, Gwen's ongoing commitment speaks for itself.

A senior herself, Gwen continues to generously give her time, energy and compassion to those around her. She is a familiar face at local events, volunteering at initiatives such as the 2025 Music Muster and playing an important role in organising the annual Christmas Luncheon at the Weethalle Country Club, an event that brings the community together in celebration and connection.

Behind the scenes, Gwen is always willing to lend a hand, assisting with catering and supporting numerous local events including the Weethalle Show and Music Muster. Her readiness to step in wherever needed, always with a smile, has made a meaningful difference to many.

Gwen's quiet dedication and generosity have helped strengthen the Weethalle community over many years, fostering a sense of belonging and care for local seniors.

The 2026 Seniors Week Lunch, held at the West Wyalong S&C Club, was a sold-out event, bringing together 130 seniors to enjoy a delicious roast meal, great company and live entertainment from Jamie Agius.

Although Gwen was unable to attend the lunch, Council representatives visited her this week to present the award in person, celebrating the occasion with a small morning tea.

Bland Shire Council invites the community to join in congratulating Gwen Pope on this well-deserved recognition.
