Halloween is thought to have its origins in ancient Celtic traditions, when festivals were held to mark harvest time and the change in seasons. As part of these celebrations, people visited neighbours' houses dressed in costumes and recited verses in exchange for food. This may be where we get Trick or Treating from today!
