Hard Times, Big Laughs: Roadshow To Bring Comedic Relief

Gunnedah Shire Council

Fresh laughs are on their way to Gunnedah.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is stopping off at the Civic Theatre on Friday, 8 May and tickets are already on sale.

Gunnedah Shire Council's Cultural Precinct Team Leader Danny Hankinson said the Roadshow offered comedic relief in difficult and uncertain times by bringing wise-cracking comedians right to our doorstep.

"With all the upheaval in the world, we need to remember there are still things to enjoy, and getting together with friends and family is a great way to unwind and forget the troubles of the world for a few hours," he said.

"Laughter is a known stress-reliever, so grab your tickets and get those endorphins flowing."

This year's line-up will be heralded by funny man, writer and actor Suren Jayemanne. His claims to fame include being an extra on Thor: Love and Thunder, creating and hosting SBS Food's Good Tucker, and writing for The Project (TEN) and Wil Anderson's Question Everything.

Jayemann will be wrangling the likes of Annie Boyle, David Quirk, Nathan Chin and Sez.

Annie Boyle has toured sold-out comedy shows across Australia and the United Kingdom and also dabbles in TV, starring in the award-winning Colin From Accounts (Binge) and the upcoming Stan Original series The F Ward.

David Quirk will be hot on her heels - but steering clear of the sun (he's pale). He has appeared in a number of TV shows, including Rosehaven, Playing Gracie Darling and the soon-to-be-released drama The Birthday Trip.

Also taking to the stage is Nathan Chin, known for his "sharp, edgy, racial and politically risky" comedy, drawing on degrees in politics and philosophy, law and finance, and his background working in top-tier law firms as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer.

Chin will be joined by TikTok starlet Sez, who sings her way through life, striking a chord with millions on social media. The pint-sized powerhouse has also performed at the Party In The Paddock, Beyond The Valley, and Lost Paradise festivals.

Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:30pm start. Full bar facilities and hot food will be available for purchase at the event. Tickets are $50 each for allocated seating. To book, visit www.thecivic.com.au/live-theatre--events
