Hawkesbury City Council's annual smoking ceremony

Smoking ceremony - DyarubbinA senior member of the Darug community will host a Smoking Ceremony at the beginning of the Council Meeting on Tuesday, 31 January.

A Smoking Ceremony is one of the most significant ancient ceremonies performed by Aboriginal people. The Smoking Ceremony involves smouldering various native plants to produce smoke which are believed to have cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits.

A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will be held, commencing at 6pm, on the front lawn near the flag poles outside the Council Administration Building, 366 George Street, Windsor.

The Council Meeting will then commence in the Council Chambers at 6:30pm.

All members of the public are welcome to attend.
