The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Inglaba Nature Reserve, around 10km west of Temora township from Wednesday 8 April, weather permitting.
The hazard reduction burn is around 850ha in size, is located centrally in the reserve and is expected to take two to four days including mopping up operations.
This burn is designed to enhance habitat conditions and support native species by promoting biodiversity and ecological health, while also reducing ground and shrub fuel loads.
The community is advised to ensure pets are secure within property boundaries and have an area that provides protection for them, close all windows and remove washing from clothes lines on the burn days of the burn.
Drivers are warned to take care and people with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors and follow their health plan.
NPWS may be assisted by Rural Fire Service crews from Bland/Temora Zone brigade, and this burn is just one of many being undertaken by NPWS across NSW, as conditions allow. For their safety, the public should not enter closed areas while the operation is underway.
Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.
Planned low to moderate intensity burns also aim to improve the park's biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.
If you are vulnerable to smoke, try to stay indoors, keeping doors and windows closed to reduce your exposure
